How to Integrate Shortcut with Slack

Get Shortcut notifications directly in the Slack channel of your choice

Shortcut’s Slack integration allows you to complete many project management tasks without having to leave Slack to reduce time spent switching between tools. For example, you can create a new story, close a completed story, reply to comments, receive notifications on tasks you follow, and more.

What you’ll need

  • Permission to add apps in Slack
  • Admin access to a Shortcut account

Add the Slack Integration

Login to your Slack and Shortcut workspaces

In your Shortcut workspace, click on your profile icon at the bottom-left corner of the page and select Integrations.

From the Integrations modal select Slack and click Add to Slack.

In the Slack webpage that opens, make sure you select the right workspace if you’re signed in to multiple Slack workspaces.

Click Allow.

Connect Teams and Projects to Slack Channels

Now that you’ve successfully set up the Slack app, you’ll need to link your Shortcut projects and teams to specific Slack channels to start using the integration. Here’s how to do that:

In your Shortcut workspace, click on your profile icon at the bottom-left corner of the page and select Integrations.

To connect a Shortcut team: at the bottom of the modal, in the Add Team to Slack Channel section click the Link a Team and select your Shortcut team and the Slack channel for that team.

To connect a Shortcut project: in the Link Project to Slack Channel section, click the Link a Project button and select the Shortcut project and the Slack channel associated with that project.

To test the integration, make a change to one of the stories and verify that you receive a message in the channel you selected.

That’s it! You’re now ready to use your Slack integration.
